Looking at all the covers above I found that the ones that stood out to me are very much based on the image of the model / person on the front cover. They are focusing on them and that is the main aspect of the cover that they are telling their audience to look at. The DAZED and PAPER magazines both have more of a subtle background, usually being one colour or simple back drop. I think this is more effective in what they are trying to achieve and I prefer them to ones like CULTURED as there is a lot more going on in those covers and that is then drawing the attention away from the main aspect of the cover.
