DESIGN A + B DESIGN FOR SCREEN

After the crit we decided the two routes to go down as shown below :

CRIT - SCREEN

We explained all the different components in this crit of our app, and showed the typographic experiments,
 including :

- menu - allergy advice, calorie count
- order for collection
- about 164
- how to find us
- contact
- loyalty card

The feedback we received was very positive. Orlando said the best thing to do from now was to create two very different versions of our app that go down different routes and see which one is preferred and which works well as a whole.

TYPOGRAPHIC EXPERIMENTS + COLOUR

After completing our wireframes we wanted to solidify some ideas we have. In relation to colour scheme we believe to keep the authenticity of Bakery 164 the best thing to do was to keep the colour scheme the same. The classic red and yellow that we all love to see outside one of our favourite sandwich shops. Firstly we used an image that we took of the outside of the shop and using the eyedropper tool selected a yellow and a red out of that. However we discovered because the sign is probably weather beaten and quite old the colours that came out were very dark and not what we thought so we decided the best thing to do was to brighten those colours. We ended up with the red and yellow that is shown below.

In relation to typography, to keep everything similar and authentic we thought it would be best to do the headings / main type in handwritten writing like they do in the shop. We experimented using a variety of colours just like they do in their shop and the result is shown below. We believe that it is an accurate representation of how it looks in the shop and that it looks good.

WIREFRAMES / WORKFLOW

We created this wireframe based on what information we gathered from our primary and secondary research, and have tried to create a smooth experience which enables the customer to carry out a number of activities. The main aim is to improve efficiency of the transaction and create a user friendly experience. The workflow is shown through the arrows on the wireframe. Every arrow if you follow them to the end shows clearly different activities throughout the app.

Our app improves efficiency and solves the following problems which you could get in the shop :
- See the menu / ingredients and allergy advice = saving time for both the customers and the staff
- order online and pay by card = people no longer have to rely on having the correct cash
- find out about the company = carried out in your own time if you are interested
- a direct link to google maps to find the location = quick and easy if you are new to leeds and heard about Bakery 164
- a list of ways to get in touch = direct link to phone number, social media and email address
- a digital loyalty card = leads to a free bakery after 9 which makes customers want to come back

After completing our wireframes myself and Georgia went to Simon to receive some feedback :
- good idea
- source some primary research (photographs)
- side bar can not be the first page so rethink what you want your first page to be
- start on your design strategies (colour scheme, type)

PERSONAS

Personas are characteristics of archetypal users, fictitious profiles of potential users. Personas include a number of different people in one in order to help solve problems and identity needs. In this task we must be realistic, describe a range / challenging target audience and provide insight into behaviours, attitudes, needs, personality and occupation.

Matt -
Gender = male
Location = Leeds, Hyde Park
Age = 20
Job = full time student
Interests = football, socialising and DJing
Personality =  outgoing, energetic and friendly

Charlotte -
Gender = female
Location = Leeds, Headingly
Age = 22
Job = full time student, part time waitress
Interests = reading, going out to each and singing

Personality = intrevert

Ian -
Gender = male
Location = Leeds, Harrogate
Age = 44
Job = University Lecturer
Interests = walking holidays, jazz music and long board skating

Personality = trying to be hip

The personas created above are all characters that could / would visit Bakery 164, we must refer back to these throughout our designs to make sure that we are still in keeping with the common theme and correct aspects that customers of bakery 164 with these personas would need to keep going to Bakery 164.

WHAT IS UX DESIGN

From this video I think the most important things are :
- to consider the user and the clients needs
- must help business achieve its goals
- take user needs into account at every stage of design process

From this I need to consider the user at every stage to make our app user friendly, not complicated and useful.

DESIGN FOR SCREEN FURTHER RESEARCH

Because of the feedback we received to make sure our app doesn't become corporate because Bakery 164 is so authentic and unique we need to have that represented in our app. Because of this I did some further research into small / not chain bakery's and cafes. However there were no apps I could find for my research so looked at the next best thing, websites. As shown below.

To keep the app authentic and original to Bakery 164 we need to keep the colour scheme, typeface and the general look and feel of the shop represented throughout the app, I took a couple of photographs to just get a little feel for the shop, as shown below.

As customers of the sandwich shop, we known that it is known for its authenticity. This is shown in the handwritten signs in the shop window and on the labels themselves, old fashion fridges and the dated wooden surfaces. The main purpose and focus of Bakery 164 is to provide Gourmet sandwiches at lunchtime and thus do not spend large amounts of money on their branding / decorations inside the shop. We believe that this is all part of their identity and authenticity, which is something that we are going to portray in our app. We want to digitalise the activity of buying sandwiches from Bakery whilst keeping their identity to show what we love them for.

In order to find out what students think about bakery 164 we conducted primary research by asking peers the following questions :

What comes to mind what we say Bakery 164?
- legendary sandwhiches
- angry man shouting numbers at you
- organised chaos
- funky tunes
- crowds of people, queues outside

What is your normal order from bakery 164?
- a sandwich and a latte
- just a toasted sandwhich
- sandwich and crisps
- toasted sandwhich
- pizza slice - they are underrated!
- toasted sandwich

After gathering this information it gave us an indication of the main aspects that we should consider in the design, as well as thinking about the user's experience of our app. It is important that there are clear inks and associations with our app and the actual experience of being in the store, so that this is still what people associate with when they are using our app.
