Foreground Development Crane

In Japan, the crane is a mystical creature and is believed to live for a thousand years. As a result, in the Japanese, Chinese and Korean culture, the crane represents good fortune and longevity. The Japanese refer to the crane as the “bird of happiness”.

Good fortune can also be known as 'a stroke of luck' thus again relating back to the aspect of luck and celebrating it in my print. I think the crane is a very majestic bird and is a national treasure in Japan. It is the symbol of good luck because it was thought to have a life span of a thousand years.

The origami crane was used for religious ceremonial purposes. Traditionally, it was believed that if one folded 1000 origami cranes, one’s wish would come true.   It has also become a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times.  As a result, it has become  popular to fold 1000 cranes

I decided to design the origami crane based on an image I found of three different cranes suspended :

When looking at the design as a whole I think with the addition of the origami crane it is starting to move to a more childish vibe which is something that I am not going for. In order to strive away from being childish the only way to keep the crane in would be to have a normal bird illustration instead.

I looked at cranes with their wings up and down and decided the wings up looked as if it was in flight and also helping the flower petals fall off the tree.
